About The Event

Get ready for a transcendent experience as Voices of Light, Richard Einhorn’s spellbinding musical score, breathes life into Carl Theodor Dreyer’s 1928 French silent film classic The Passion of Joan of Arc. This work is a masterful blend of vocal soloists, chorus, orchestra, and haunting bells, woven together with a libretto drawn from medieval texts, including the writings of female mystics and Joan herself. Voices of Light channels the strength, resilience, and spiritual fervor of Joan of Arc, an illiterate peasant girl who defied societal norms, led armies, and became a saint after her tragic martyrdom.

This dynamic collaboration, a union between the SJSU School of Music and the Silicon Valley Arts Coalition, brings together the SJSU Symphony Orchestra, Concert Choir, members of the San Jose Symphonic Choir, and outstanding vocal soloists. Under the masterful direction of Fred Cohen, this performance promises to be captivating!
